Winderen Thermoactive is the first and only line of blankets in the world that has patented technology from the German company Outlast®. This advanced solution uses phase change materials (PCM) – substances that can repeatedly store and release heat as they change state – to maintain an optimal body temperature. The Outlast® technology was originally developed for NASA, to create clothing for astronauts who have to deal with extreme temperature fluctuations in space.
PCMs change state depending on the horse's skin temperature. When the temperature is too high, they absorb heat, so the horse stays comfortable without overheating. When the temperature drops, they release the heat to prevent cooling.
These phase change materials are permanently integrated into the Thermocules polymer coating, which retains its properties even after numerous washes.
In addition, Winderen Thermoactive blankets have the ability to maintain the right microclimate on the horse's skin. This technology not only regulates the temperature, but also prevents moisture build-up on the skin. This means that your horse, even if it runs fast in the horse running machine, will not sweat. With Outlast® technology in Winderen Thermoactive rugs, you can make sure your horse not too hot, not too cold – just right!
From autumn, through winter, to spring – throughout the blanket season, we have conducted thorough tests on the thermoregulatory capabilities of our blanket. We divided the horses into two groups, both of which were kept under identical stable and weather conditions and with the same daily activity level.
The only difference? Group one wore Winderen Thermoactive blankets, while group two wore high-quality blankets from another well-known brand.
We placed Orscana sensors under the blankets of all participating horses to measure the temperature. The monitoring took place 24 hours a day, with real-time data collection. Developed by the French company Arioneo, Orscana is a device for monitoring the temperature of a horse under its blanket.
The results exceeded our wildest expectations!
