Why is the brown color of iso-Betadine® an advantage?
You can see where you have applied iso-Betadine®. The brown zone indicates the part of the wound that has already been disinfected and is therefore already protected.
Iodine has a brown color. As the iodine is used up, that brown color gradually disappears (i.e. it changes from brown to pale yellow). When the color is gone, you know that all the iodine has been used up and iso-Betadine® needs to be reapplied. This way you can always be sure that the wound is well protected against microorganisms. When iso-Betadine® is applied under a poultice, some areas will be more discolored than others. This is because more microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi) were present in these parts. Thus, more iodine was needed to kill these microorganisms. iso-Betadine® should be reapplied to the discoloured areas.
